He impressed me with his strong arguments. He raised the very valid issue of Israel stockpiling nuclear weapons. Why does the US go after speculative nations and not the ones that are right under their nose (North Korea and Israel come to mind).

First off, it isn't a matter of just going after anyone who has or is developing nuclear/chemical/biological weaponry. You can't seriously be suggesting that the United States should view Israel as being on the same threat plane as Saddam's Iraq. At least not where the USA is concerned. Where North Korea is concerned, they already have the weaponry which precludes actions like were taken with Iraq. The idea with Iraq was to not let yet another hostile nation acquire the nuclear blackmail card.

Second, exile was his last chance to <B>prevent</B> the war, as you said. Once the war has started, it's too late. Tough shit.
