This guy has been trying to scam me for $2400 bucks. Tells me that he is near where I live (thinking I live somewhere else in NJ because I responded to an ad on CL) then says "oh, I'm in Florida for business this month."

He tells me that he wants a money order sent, so I tell him I will, then he gives me a fake USPS tracking number (I confirmed with USPS as well saw people posting the same message Yahoo questions). He now tells me that he demands that I call the local bank to have the cash available for him to pick up. I play along with his game and tell him I will message him back.

Meanwhile, he has no bank account, no drivers license, nothing. Says he needs the cash to be there and for me to give them a secret pass code to know its him

So I call to the local police and tell them what is happening. I said anyone who isnt internet savvey would of probably fell for this, can you help clean off one more scammer off the street. Instead this is their response:
police: just call your local police, we don't have time to deal with stuff like this, we have bigger crimes going on.

me: he is trying to steal $2,400 from me, there is nothing you can do?
(meanwhile, they didn't even ask if i really sent the cashiers check or not)

police: you should use better judgment when buying things online. call your bank and tell them not to allow him to take any funds, there is nothing we can do.

me: so I just want to make sure. i have the guys email address, convos, phone number (prepaid cell) and i found out what computer cafe he is at doing this though his IP address and there is nothing you will do

police: correct sir, like i said we dont have time to deal with something like this. in the future please be more cautious. you can file a report but there is nothing we can really do past that.
FUCKING WOW! no wonder why there are so many scammers, they know they probably have no chance of being caught with the police

Anyone near Miami want to go punch this guy in the balls for me?
Internet fraud is not something that your local police department would handle. That would be for the FBI.
