London, U.K. (AHN) - A Greek woman has been accused of bodily injury to a Briton when she allegedly poured alcohol on his private parts and set him on fire with a lighter to stop his lewd advances on her.
Police in the resort town of Malia, Crete freed Marina Farounaki, 26, on bail after she explained her action on Wednesday night as self-defense.
A trial was also postponed to allow time for Stuart Feltham, 20, to recover from his injury before presenting his side of the case. The Briton's chest, lower stomach and upper genital area were apparently burned and he is being treated at a local hospital.
The woman and the British tourist have conflicting claims. Farounaki told police she poured Sambuca liqueur on the drunken Feltham's genitals for exposing himself to her and trying to molest her in a hotel restaurant but did not set him on fire. She claimed he ignited the alcohol when he lighted a cigarette to smoke.
Feltham, however, claimed he was drinking with friends and was attacked by Farounaki without provocation.
