I think there is a similar method in XP but this is how you would fix it in Vista..
Goto Control Panel
Goto Default Programs
Goto Set Program Access and Computer Defaults
From there you can select a Custom configuration and set your default browser, default media player, default messenger, etc. It will update your registry to fix any conflicts like with Winamp.
