The DMV and Post Office examples are totally false.
Generally speaking, the DMV operates pretty smoothly. I've never had them screw anything up of mine and I can get in and out when I need to renew my license within an hour. If you actually sit in a DMV, the biggest problem is the customers who show up not knowing what they are suppose to do, coming in with improper or incomplete paperwork, or not understanding the procedures. If you show up to the teller with all your paperwork in order, you are out the door very quickly.
As for the post office. How often is your mail missing or a check doesn't arrive? Almost never. If the Post Office was so terrible you would see countless threads on GFY asking "where's my check" but the old adage of something being lost in the mail is used by people who never sent the check to begin with. Considering the billions (over 200 billion) pieces of mail they handle each year, the failure rate is very low. I've had UPS and Fedex screw up more packages than the Post Office and I get way more stuff via the mail. Not to mention, the post office ran a balanced budget as recently as 2005 so a huge government agency can run successfully and not lose money.
