I have worked at a restaurant as a cook before, and I gotta say, I agree with this statement.
I don't think a waitress deserves a tip because they walked up and got a beer for you, but if they are friendly, the services is good, like boss said above, then I will tip. But most of the time, it's crap, and if the food is good, I generally just walk back to the kitchen, and hand some money to the cook and tell him to put it in his pocket.
