Banks can be idots. I used to use a banked called Key Bank and had a chargeback that I fought every month. I had signed up and used a hosting company then the company went out of business. So I switched hosts. Each month on my account there was a charge from an online processor for anywhere between $45 and $99. They never went over $100 and it was always for an odd amount like $57.92. The first one I ignored because I assumed I had bought something and forgot about it. The second one I knew was off because I didn't buy anything that month. I contested it and got a credit.

The problem was that they told me the didn't know who it was, but that the charge was authorized so they had to approve it. So every month they approved the charge and every month I disputed it and every month they gave me a refund. Finally I spent a full day calling around and we found out it was this old hosting company that was still charging me. When I explained to them that I had canceled that service they still wouldn't stop the charges. They just kept saying, "It is authorized so we have to process it." Of course it wasn't authorized, but that didn't seem to matter. Finally they suggested that I just close the account and open a new one. I asked them, "What if this happens again? It seems anyone can charge anything they want to my account and you guys don't stop it. Every month you find for me in the dispute, so why not just block that charge and save everyone the headache?" I nearly collapsed when she looked at me said, "Well, on the new account if the charge is authorized we will process it."

I closed the account and left.
