It's such a silly program that every state in the union has applied for the funds and will receive an average of $19M each. I was listening to a couple of energy experts talk about it on NPR (All Things Considered) yesterday and they said $300M wasn't enough but that the program would save enough energy to power NYC for a week. In addition, it will bring back a good number of jobs and help struggling suppliers.
The Cash for Clunkers program has actually greatly stimulated the economies in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania (as well as other areas) because they are calling back 30% of laid off workers at the big 3 and have reopened a bunch of plants. The President of the Steel Workers Union said it has been the best thing to happen to that sector in years and will help spurn alot of development... like planting a seed and watching a plant grow... we will see what happens.
