It's a shame that the dogs had to be killed, but if they're rabid and attacking people... then there's not many alternatives. No one wants to see children killed by wild animals. Your method of killing is pretty brutal though. Chopping off their heads is a pretty savage thing to do.
Next time, chop of the head of the biggest dog and wear his head as a mask and run around and scare the locals. Do this at night. Who knows... you may become the equivalent of Batman. Every town needs a vigilante.
