You may want to double check if the newest version of Videocharge can import VOBs. That's a great batch encoding app that I use a lot. Ripping DVD (licensed) is the only reason I assume most people work with VOBs. Of course you still have to split the VOBs into appropriate scenes at some point since the sex scenes on a commercial DVD never correspond to how the VOB files are split.
On the other hand, if you want the best quality way to deal with VOBs from commercial DVDs:
Get VOBs off of DVD with DVD Decrypter or similar app. Import VOBs into DVD2AVI --> which outputs lots of very large, very high resolution DV AVI files on your hard drive + one wav file for the DVD's audio --> import AVIs and wav into an editing app like Premiere Pro so you can add disclaimer, logos, edit for content, split scenes or to fade out between DVD scenes cleanly if you desire -> output scene or movie to a DV AVI file-> then import that edited DV AVI into your preferred wmv encoding app like Cleaner XL, Videocharge or Sorenson Squeeze and apply slight sharpness, saturation and brightness filter--> outputs very high quality wmv files on your hard drive.
