...and there are a few more here, who are just waiting to become the next victims.
the clues "...do homework"...and "get it in writing"..."you can recover it".
there is a sliver of truth to those statements. but mostly it shows they don't know how these things are.
homework usually involves asking the persons for references and more information and pamphlets. of course what they provide all checks out.
get it in writing. sure i can write you any percent you want, give me a million dollars and you name your percentage rate of return to be paid in full the day after never.
recover it, not likely. those types go through all the cash. e.g. cars repo'd. hint !
I had a close friend get the same thing some years back. $50k, oil exploration deal. big convention in las vegas (my first clue, hmmm), minimum investments, and all in writing. yes they had the phone answering service, an a well drilling rig picture etc.
I tried to warn him prior, but he refused my advice, because he did his homework, and IT WAS IN WRITING. ok then. Same exact promises, a minimum of xx% amount, up to 30% or more. I tried to reason with him, if it was such a sure thing with no risk, even banks would be loaning them the money, and they wouldn't have to pay 'investors' such a high rate!
eventually the service stopped answering the phones, zero recovered.
good luck. and I'm not faulting you, as much as i warn a few others who think they are smarter than you and could 'do better homework' and or 'get it in writing'. of course i'm not saying reallly sharp guys couldn't figure out the scam, but then again, that old "if it sounds too good to be true, you can be sure it is also works."
hey, at least it wasn't the email from nigeria investing money to get larger money scam.
