A B.C. toddler lost for 25 hours in the Yukon bush was found Friday night, healthy, safe, a bit thirsty - and accompanied by a brand new friend.
An unidentified two-year-old boy from Kamloops, was found Friday at about 7 p.m. about two kilometres away from the campsite where he was last seen, unharmed, and in the company of a mutt named Koda.
Ground searchers found the child in a He was located about 80 metres into a dense bush area, unharmed, with Koda beside him.
"The first thing he said was, 'I want juice - I want juice,'" said Mike Bondarchuk, a member of the search party and the co-owner of the North Canol Road Hotel.
"He looked great. We were so excited to find him."
Bondarchuk said the boy's name is Kale.
The boy wandered off from his family campsite Thursday afternoon near Ross River in the Yukon. He was last seen patting a dog on a bridge near the site, according to Bondarchuk.
For the next 25 hours, Kale was the subject of a massive hunt by RCMP officers and search and rescue volunteers from nearby communities of Faro and Ross River.
The boy was found using a FLIR from a helicopter. When the FLIR detected a possible heat source a ground team was sent in and the child was located, the RCMP said in a press release.
Koda, who also goes by the nickname "Squeak" had been missing for nearly a week when he was found with the toddler.
Koda belonged to Kim Dolan, the daughter of Bondarchuk's business partner Bob Dolan.
When boy and dog were found, the dog was rewarded with a roast beef sandwich, and Kale got his juice, said Bondarchuk.
The boy also got to keep his new friend: the boy pleaded to keep the young mutt, said Bondarchuk, so Dolan gave him the dog.
