There's a big difference between someone who's a heavy drinker, who can function normally for 99% of the time, and an alcoholic, who has a problem functioning in society to a reasonable level, and totally reliant on alcohol.
Some good answers in here, I thought most would be of Spunky's nature, but I'm incredibly surprised they aren't.
