In some fundamentalist Muslim countries the idea is that you wipe your shit with your left hand and eat with your right... that's why it's a big deal if you get caught stealing (or various other crimes) and they cut off your hand - you have to eat and wipe with the same hand (apart from the obvious annoyance of having one hand chopped off).
