I was working for Ameritech (now AT&T).
At the time of the 9-11 attacks I was sitting in a union grievances all morning. I was a union steward at that time, and it was not unusual for me to spend a half day, or day, argueing people's cases with management.
Anyway, at the time of the attacks all of our pagers went off. The first attack, then the second, and it was almost back to back beeping. Management and mine. We read about the attacks as they happened and were kinda shocked to say the least. I still remember to this day one of the managers saying, 'Kinda puts all this union bickering bullshit into perspective".
We wrapped up the grievances and some went back to work, I think I took the 2nd half the day off. Went home, drank and watched TV the rest of the day.
