Just a heads up to folks coming in and wanting to use trains or other public transport in Amsterdam and elsewhere...

I don't know about Schipol or Amsterdam, but in any other train station you can't pay for your train ticket at the machine with a cc unless it's maestro. I peeked over someone's shoulder in Utrecht today and it's only pin and maestro there.

Also, Amsterdam, the Haag, and some of the other cities have officially switched from the strip card (that piece of paper the bus or tram driver stamps) to the chip OV cards. You can buy the cards at a dispencer for something like 5 or 7 euro and then charge them in various places. I believe if you still have a strip card from previous stays you can still use it for now, you just can't buy them anymore in Amsterdam (not sure about elsewhere).

If you use these on the bus or tram, MAKE SURE you hear the beep when you check out or you'll be wacked 4 euro for the trip instead of the actual distance traveled.
