Few people understand how kids will effect their lives. I know I surely didn't.
These days I explain it like this.... When you were younger you did what you wanted to do when you wanted to. When you were hungry you ate, when you were tired you slept, and when you were bored you went out. When you have a kid, you eat when your kid is hungry (and you'll eat where you kid wants to nine times out of ten), you'll sleep when your kid is sleeping, and when your bored you'll look for something to do that will entertain you kid being as you can't just lock your kid in a closet and go bar hopping.
You get to watch first hand how a child grows up into an adult. You watch them roll over and learn how to walk (then run), learn how to speak, and learn how to make decisions for themselves. Then suddenly you've discovered that they have their own personality and want choices on how they dress, how they spend their free time, what sports and after school things they want to be a part of.
It's an utterly amazing process.
Take lots of pictures. Daily. Trust me on that one.
