uhm... sorry... that "fight" the "flag" in question represents is the fight over whether or not slavery should end in a southern economy that was 100% dependent on slavery.
and stronger "states rights" in this case would have certainly meant prolonging the full and complete ownership of black people as slaves to be bought/sold, beaten, killed, raped or worked to death.
