When I first see the bg, first thing I think is hmmm someone in the tube game layed up some scratch. I don't really go the extra step and link it to GFY. But I understnd how many would feel betrayed.
For the record i do think tubes took a shit in the traffic pool and were all wading in it but that has nothing to do with GFY. They're just in position to make money.Comment

I should have replied/quoted Steve, hit the wrong one. Steve said they hide behind DMCAs ... which is half true. Since the owners of tube sites say it's user uploaded (and no one has proved otherwise, yet) then you have to follow DMCA. However, if you can prove in any manner that a company that runs the site stole your content, they CANNOT hide behind DMCA.Comment

Well, that's why there should requirements about logging and reporting. German court already ruled similar to Rapidshare and Usenet ruled to be responsible for user uploads. This is individual cases, but when the "protection" become abuse on big scale, it need to be forced through laws... or other restrictions.Comment

Dude, your argument that a lawsuit = legitimacy is flawed. Who has the time to chase down everyone who steals?
If someone, or say, a group of people not easily identifiable were using say... your logo on their sites or w/e equally valuable item you put money/time/energy into and it was affecting your business but not in a way that is directly measurable - would YOU spend 4-5 hours of each and every day tracking these people down, sending out notices & following up with a suit if they failed to comply?
Who has time for that!?
The bottom line is that this industry has been consuming itself for a very, very long time. We proved to ourselves time and again how divided we are, and how money is king in this business. There were people bitching about too much given away during pic tgp days, then movie tgp days that was the new end of the world...
