I am not condemning Polsanski per se but rather a system where one class of defendant is treated differently than another. That is what makes me sick.

Not in the 1970's he wouldn't have. Back then there were sane laws for how crimes were judged. A judge could take things on a case by case basis and make a decision. 9 times out of 10 the guy and the girl would have probably gotten married if it were some fat local loser in West Virginia or Alabama. lol
Now in 2009? It would have been prison instantly. The judge wouldn't even need to show up as he wouldn't have much to do except give a sentence out. And then Polanski would be a registered sex offender.
Kind of like a lot of all or our relatives a hundred years ago would now be called "pedos" and "sex offenders"
Different time, different culture.
If this were during the Roman Empire days, Polanski would have been given grief for fucking someone too OLD. lol And probably given double grief because it wasn't a boy.
