You are apparently as hardcore an anti-gun advocate as these guys are pro-gun advocates.

First a little airing... I do believe in the right to bear arms and I am far from a gun lover or enthusiast. Yes, I do own a handgun and a shotgun. The shotgun for home defense as a handgun is a VERY poor choice for home security and the handgun for when I am out and about as I have a concealed carry license. With my past and background, which does not need aired here, I have more firearm training under my belt than most ever will in a lifetime.

Now... I do believe it should be a lot harder to acquire a firearm. I also believe a one time or annual training session should be required as well as psychological profiles and better background checks. Also making it illegal to buy firearms at gunshows or from private sales that have little or no screening process

With that being said, I want to point out the part of the argument the anti-gun crowd refuses to take into account.

Criminals or the mentally disturbed, which make up a large part of the offenses with a firearm (robbery, murder, etc.). Out of this group a very large portion of them obtained their weapons from illegal sources or poor gun control (gun shows or private gun sales).

"According to the 1997 Survey of State Prison Inmates, among those possessing a gun, the source of the gun was from:

1. a flea market or gun show for fewer than 2%
2. a retail store or pawnshop for about 12%
3. family, friends, a street buy, or an illegal source for 80%"

With 3 being the highest percent and ALL illegally obtained or stolen.

"More than 95 percent of all gun related crimes in the Rochester area are committed with illegal guns. That's what District Attorney Mike Green told NEWS 10NBC Tuesday. So where are all these guns coming from? Police say the guns are generally stolen and come from states that have less stringent gun laws."

Illegal Gun Trafficking

The problem is the anti-gun folks and the pro-gun folks are to set in their thinking to even consider compromise or even to enter into civil debate because they think they are the only ones right.
