There's definitely more than enough rules for protecting the quarterback in the NFL. The problem I have is with the calls the refs make, because they don't seem to use enough sense sometimes.
I mean if a defender is rushing the QB and is moving full force towards him and the QB unloads the ball at the last split second there is no way that that pass rusher can avoid the collision. I get it about the late hit thing, but there's a fine line there where the ref must be able to tell the difference between a late hit and an unavoidable collision. If you're going to throw the flag at least have it be for a clear DECISIVE infraction.
