I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but chicks backpacking in Australia are pretty much open game. If you ever want to get laid anywhere (as an Australian), you go to the backpacking bars.
Advice: let her do her thing. 1 year is a long time. If you were in her situation, you'd want the freedom to live in the situation and moment - whether that be get hit on by drunken dudes in a bar, or exploring real relationships with someone there.
Just let her do her thing, move on yourself, and see what happens in a years time. Honestly.
