People who dig amateur stuff tend to go for sites that actually LOOK amateur. IMHO it does NO good to have a $2000-designed 'amateur' website where everything - the design, I mean - looks pretty, and Dreamweaver-generated. Simply putting 'average' (ugly?) girls into a pro-looking porn template, then calling it 'Amateur Hotties' or whatever, is a joke and doesn't work. or maybe it does, but only a little.
It's called marketing, and you gotta have a story or an angle to justify the 'crappy' designs but if you do that right, get a decent scenario/story together, then the crappy designs actually feed into the illusion that this IS a true 'amateur' endeavor, and not just some ploy by some industry pro who's trying to convince a surfer he's seeing actual amateur content.
Heck, the content itself COULD be 'real amateur' but it's all how it's presented. All this depends greatly, of course, on what kind of traffic you're sending to a page like that. YouPorn surfers expect some kind of quality but other amateur traffic might groove on a site like that.
Tweak, tweak until you find your sweet spot. Don't spend two grand on a design that won't really make you anymore sales.
