The army is hungry for mental health professionals. There are many positions sitting vacant because there is simply no one to fill them. They may have wanted to overlook certain things because they needed him to fill gaping holes. Either way, you make a good point. Why would they use someone of such high rank as a patsy? Why not some nobody private that had a lot of trouble in his past, I'm sure there are plenty of those. There are many other muslims who are serving in the armed forces. Why this guy, if it is all a conspiracy...
