We do not need to research much. Just go to all the earlier comments about pirate bay becoming a "pay" site, and you'll read that no one is/was willing to pay a dime. Just like you, they argued that pirates paying for the stuff. But when they face it, they are not even willing (or able) to pay a few bucks per month...
