There's no guaranty that social networking sites do not need to be compliant with 2257. There is some language in the new regs that seem to indicate that a true social networking site -- Myspace, Twitter and Facebook will get a pass on 2257. Just like mainstream production companies get a pass in some ways.

I would be careful in allowing user generated content that is not being monitored. Not only from a 2257 perspective but you are now forced to allow copyright infringement.

If you monitor for copyright infringement and remove content for DMCA violations you then have to monitor it for obscene/CP content and then you get into the 2257 mix and may not qualify as a social networking site.

This is a very fine line in my opinion.
