Today, Detroit is worse than ever. It looks worse than a bombed out village in any third world war zone. There is a reason they are selling houses for 10K. In fact, there were homes that you could have gotten for MUCH LESS. I am talking a few thousand. And that was 15 years ago during the bubble years. Detroit is the epitome of an urban wasteland.

Am looking at sat pictures of the homes (Bing's bird eye view rocks) and honestly can't see anything _that_ bad. Obviously it's not the same as actually being there, but the districts look a lot better than what I'm used to.
