When you are developing biz apps where 5 people or 10 people are going to use, who cars about server speed, need speed, buy hardware.
Any way both products have their market. Microsoft has done a very good job of building a solid framework (NET 4.0) , its one single platform where the OS, Tools, Database, Framework etc etc comes from one single vendor.
