One of the main/real reasons for the Iraq attack was that area is the oldest known civilization. Which is why it's coined "the cradle of civilization." Saddam was rebuilding Mesopotamia in "his" likeness. Rather than putting the actual gods of that time on the buildings he was putting himself. He believed he was one of the gods re-incarnated. These people didn't like that. Especially since they think so highly of themselves. One of the first things they went after were the Sumerian tablets. Which are now stored somewhere in the UK. (forgot where) A couple of scholars were allowed access to a few of them and the story is pretty interesting but it defies all which modern day religions believe so they are kept under wraps for the most part by the powers that be.. All modern day religions were somewhat created from it those stories handed down though.
