I was saving my 22,000th post to make a big announcement about my website, when I learned some very sad news about the passing of a porn legend, and decided to make this announcement instead, since I couldn't find a post on GFY about it.
For those who have not heard, I am truly saddened to pass along the news that AVN Award winning director, and a friend of mine, David Aaron Clark, passed away last Saturday in Los Angeles.
David was a multi-talented individual, and not just in porn. He graduated with a degree in Journalism from Rutgers, and then wrote for several mainstream publications including the Dow Jones News Service.
He eventually went on to writing gigs at Genesis and Screw magazine. David Aaron Clark (or DAC as he was known to many), was one of the best writers in adult.
He wrote and directed many outstanding adult films, including Asianatrix, the No Man's Land: Asian Edition series, and the Asia Noir series (for which he won an AVN award).
His most recent movie, "Pure", which he wrote and directed for Evil Angel, received multiple AVN nominations, including Best Actor (Keni Styles), Best Actress (Asa Akira), Best Supporting Actor (Jake Malone), Best Couples Sex Scene, Best Music Soundtrack, Best Special Effects, Best Screenplay, and Best Director Feature and Best Video Feature.
David had also previously won an AVN award for Best Screenplay.
David had an edgy style both in his writing and in his video shooting and editing. He was passionate about his work, and it showed. He often focused on the darker side of sexuality - his scenes could be at once beautiful and sensual, and in another moment dark and visceral.
He shared my love of Asian women, and I admired his talent very much - in fact, he is the only adult director whom I have ever asked to get an autograph from. We had just smoked a doobie together, and he thought I was kidding at first. He genuinely seemed moved by my request as he graciously autographed a few of his DVD covers for me.
If you were a friend of his, David was as loyal as any friend can be, and if you got on his bad side...well, David never minced words. To some, he could appear menacing looking with his burly frame, many tattoos, and East Coast accent and sensibility, but he was actually an intelligent and humorous person, with a gentle side and artistic flair once you got to know him.
My sincere and heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.
Rest In Peace David Aaron Clark, a true pioneer and genuine video auteur...you will be greatly missed my friend.
