When has it become socially acceptable?

Sure it has become more acceptable by the younger generations and the older ones that never quit. A good chunk of the country though still thinks it is a bad drug. They are just semi OK with it having medical use and that is a small semi OK at that.
Remember we still have cities trying to fight state laws on its legality. People still get arrested left and right. You are not protected when smoking it anywhere in the US at this time.

If and when it does change it will change to make it what you claimed - more socially acceptable. Then you will see the whole barrage of 2nd hand weed smoking and all that shit. Just do not think the battle is over. If to many weed heads get all giddy and start being stupid trying to sell street drugs as medical and making cash, the tides can turn back very quick.
