well, spammers are getting banned faster on twitter lately.
just check that thread in this forum, "what's your twitter"... after posting my twitter username on that thread I got like 20 follower messages on my email, when i tried to visit their twitter to follow them back, it said: "Sorry but this user was banned for suspicious activity"
so, all those webmasters who thought they were going to make some bucks by creating fake twitter profiles with a hot girl in the pic, to get followers and sell some shit, are getting a hard time lately..
