I've been told by a trusted person that the joins are for real. They actually sign up for the sites they review. If that's a good or a bad thing in their strategy, i don't know, but it seems they actually sign up for the sites.
The site is in Beta, there are many things they need to tweak around, that's for sure, but if they continue the work and learn from their mistakes, this could turn out to be something quite big imo.
