Here is why, in my opinion, Thailand falls very short of being a Paradise. Relationships.
Now I know that might sound crazy.
But really, if you are an expat, apart from your girlfriend (if you have one) and her immediate family, how many Thais would you consider real friends? How many would you trust and would count on whatever happened or even have meaningful discussions with?
In places equally as poor as Thailand, like Colombia or Cuba, after a couple of months, people will have taken you in like one of theirs. In Thailand you'll always be an alien, on the long term, this has a huge impact on your quality of life.
