I don't see how his question is out of line. Numerous people have claimed to have been scammed by a company Pete owns. He is pointing out that Pete is an owner in another company. He asked a rhetorical question that I'm sure others would want to ask if they are doing business with a company that he feels has an owner with dubious business ethics.
I understand it puts you in a shitty spot and in fact feel for you in the situation. But if you found out Bernie Madoff was part-owner in a bank you kept your money, you certainly wouldn't blow it off and say "well his other business is completely different and has no bearing on this company".
If you don't want your company questioned like that, don't go into business with people like that.
