This is a non-issue. The teacher/school never should have given the drawing a second glance.
But it is interesting to think about from the violence angle. A picture of someone nailed to a cross with Xs over their eyes is a violent image. That it is a religious symbol doesn't really make it any less so, even if it does change the context.
