Wireless "things" - phones, routers, etc. will only be blocked by a) metal and b) hills.
Walls made of drywall, wood, etc. really won't affect the radio waves. (Just barely).
Pretty much only metal blocks radio waves, except a hill might be several hundred
feet thick. Several hundred feet of soil and rocks will stop just about anything that
tries to go through it.
TV style remotes or other things which need to be pointed at the thing you are
controlling are different because they don't use radio waves, they use infrared -
basically a flashing red light. They are therefore blocked by pretty much anything
you can't see through.
