Recently while working on our CMS demo site I was able to add about 275 scenes in 2 days by myself including titles, descriptions, associating models, and cropping a preview thumbnail for each. It's actually not "that much" work considering it's a 1 time project and the benefit is great.

Most times unless someone has over 1000 sets of content they opt for doing it manually since the time/cost benefit of automation usually doesn't make sense for a project that would only take a week or so to complete if done by hand.
