and the fact that some never change... most of my friends were from the music scene (some of whom you would know of) and while I am still in contact with most of them we are really no longer friends... because they never really grew up or developed habits that soaked their brains or made them into people that I couldn't relate to. I moved on to different (and I think better) things and developed a career and a family... while they still hang out at bars 4-5 days a week and get drunk and brag about when they played in a good band "back in the day". The biggest thing that has separated us is that I have had a measure of success in comparison to what they have done and they say things like "Well... you were lucky..." like I hit the lottery or something. How can you remain friends with people who discount you in their minds... it became painfully obvious to me over time that they had always felt like they were better than me in some way and that grew into jealousy as I saw more success. It's sad really.

As I mentioned above... some of them saw some success for a short period and pissed it away by not planning ahead or by a sense of entitlement that led them to demand more from their labels than they were worth... resulting in the label dropping them. One band in particular has top 10 hits in the 90s and now some of the members are broke and bitter (a couple of them went on to successful careers in different fields).
