You will never shoot tight groups that far with an auto feeder though.
But in the end it all depends what purpose you want the gun to do.
This is why we (hunter/firearm enthusiasts) have so many.
One for every occasion because you'll never find one that does it all.
(but if he wants to shoot allot of targets and have fun .308 and .223 will get expensive)
If I got the AR to mainly target shoot I would get it chambered in 7.62 x 39 (because its 3 x cheaper to shoot)
If I got an AR to kill or hunt out to 250 yards I would get it in .308.
If I wanted to shoot shit out at 600 yards i wouldn't get an AR

(i'd get a nice bolt action magnum)
