Some things to consider are your budget, timeframe, can you live without this bathroom for a long time or must it be done rather quickly. You can save some money by hiring the subcontractors yourself, but that can be time consuming and frustrating trying to find a good one who will show up and do the work as expected. I get most of my work through referrals. So ask your friends and neighbors about their experiences. I'm sure everyone can tell you who not to use.

You could hire a designer to do some sketches and you can implement them yourself. The more time that you spend planning the less time it will take for the project to be completed and the less problems there will be. The biggest headache will be getting good subcontractors.
