Canon is notorious for over saturation in their consumer models. Even the XHA1 over saturates. Most consumer models who offer manual controls do so in very limited capacities. Like for example, focusing with a joystick on the HF20. Good luck with rack focusing and creating a shallow depth of field. Very few areas in life support the "you get what you pay for" but video cameras are definitely one area that this applies.
