I was surprised that Bush turned down Cuba?s request to send an army of physicians and nurses to help the victims of Katrina. Ok, I understand that they may defect to the US. However, we did accept their offer to allow use of their airspace to get to Haiti.
The most touching aid to the US was after 9/11 when the Maasai people of Kenya offered 14 heads of cattle to help the victims of 9/11. It does not sound like much in our society but that?s huge for them. The story is told in a children?s book,
14 Cows for America.
