well, I didn't wrote the tutorial, but it's very easy to see that you can add any wordpress feature, you can add a header or, as in the given example, a widgetized sidebar/footer or any of the possibilities mentioned in the tutorial by just adding the proper call. This tutorial aims to help people do stuff they never thought about, and at the same time to open a broad field of possibilities instead of some random code copy/paste. I've searched for something like this and didn't find it anywhere, so I'm sure it will help some people looking to expand WP to new horizons, even further than what we mentioned
