I've never lost someone close to me. My father died when I was nine months old. Both of grandfathers died before I was born. Both grand mothers died in the past few years; It hurt at first but then it wasn't much of a big deal for me.
My wife lost her younger brother when we were first dating. It was devastating for them, and every year they "celebrate" his death - which I just don't understand.
