The dems had the pedal to the metal because they knew they would probably lose their super majority in 2010. It was pretty much now or never as far as getting real health care reform and they knew it.

The question now is where did the dems go wrong. It's my feeling that they didn't go far enough. The voters (or a lot of them in any case) wanted health insurance that was both more affordable and more inclusive. What the dems offered instead was a law requiring everybody to buy insurance that was sure to cost more, a lot more. It was a giveaway to the insurance industry plain and simple.
Add to that the fact that Obama has done nothing to clamp down on the abuses on Wall Street and in the banking industry and it's no wonder that the voters have turned on him.

That's the real irony here. The voters are pissed and they want blood but since they can't punish Wall Street, AIG or the big banks they're taking their rage out on the party they see as having betrayed them.

The democrats had an opportunity the likes of which they might not see again for another generation.
Thing is, the Republicans don't have the answers either and enough voters know that to keep them from ever getting the kind of power the Democrats just had.
