Here ya go..

From free-codecs.com do this in order:

1st - K-Lite Mega Codec - Install all but do not install MPC (will prob make you uninstall MPC during codec installation) - Install this Codec pack first - all default settings installation

2nd - K-Lite Mega Codec Update - install this second - all default settings installation but do not install MPC yet. This also has an option to take back all default files from WMP 11 if it has stold your defaults as it tends to do. It esp likes to keep taking back .avis no matter what you have set. This is the only way to get them back that I know of.

3rd - K-Lite Codec Pack - Install MPC 6.4.8.4 ONLY - (this is the best version imo if you have the orig install file - or you can just install the latest version which might be ok, but whatever you install just install the player only in this third step)

MPC will now play virtually any file incl .flv

And I'm with you, MPC is simply the best mainly because there are so many shortcuts and play controls that can be set up plus it is fast to load and low on resources.
