The camera is coming up to 5 years old so the manufacturer warranty expired some time ago... I've heard stories of premature shutter failures being replaced out of warranty before but Canon have now gone hardball and refuse to do it, saying that it's a mechanical device, the specified figures are average, blah blah blah.
I do photography as a hobby, and I look after my camera, so it's a bit of a surprise to see my shutter fail 25% into its rated life.
I'm more pissed at the price discrepancy between what it cost in AU and what it costs in the USA. It's a monopoly AFAIK, there's no aftermarket shutters available, so they can charge what they want.
