Niche word comes from marketing, and from there it became widely used in most commercial activities. I took a look at your post and you even propose the word
taxonomy, which in marketing is a whole different thing.

well, not only I apply it EVERY DAY to my business, but believe me when I tell you that not only is easy to find books (and videos, and conferences, and lectures, and magazines, and websites, and.......) but I think it's one of the easiest to find marketing subjects!
